It depends on how long you want the crib (to last and how long do you think about it for an older child in a hypothetical large enough to fit on a regular bed or sleep?).
The convertible cribs are good because they bear the child, which grow much more expensive, but some are still a bed to save your self at the expense of buying a normal bed when its time. This will probably be easier to make the transition from crib to toddler bed in a convertible. But that means that you buy a different crib still a baby.

I think this answer depends on how many children they have. There are several factors that will help you decide.
